I am currently in Florence after having visited Milan, Vincenza, Venice, and Cinque Terre. Unfortunately I cannot post any photos. It has been difficult to find internet points and even more difficult to find ones where I can print reservations/directions or download my photos. My time here has been amazing. Interestingly though, I was more impressed with Spain and the urban planning, cleanliness, and over-all organization & sense of design. That is what I expected to see in Itlay. However, in every italian town, it has been the people that, in one way or another, have made my time special. Yesterday I climbed 400+ stairs to get to the top of the Duomo, with a sweeping view of Florence. After climbing back down, on the way out, I heard some chanting or singing in the cathedral. All the other tourists were filing out and I began to wonder if I was really hearing it. But a guard came over and I asked about it. It was the chanting of the Rosary taking place in one arm of the transcept. It was haunting to listen to as it traveled throught out the space. (Apparently it was recently timed that it takes sound 14 seconds to travel through out the cathedral.) The acoustics are incredible! And then the guard let me in to go sit where they were praying, so see and hear it up close. A wonderful experience!
