Gaudi's design experiements & models

"A great building must begin with the unmeasurable, must go through measurable means when it is being designed and in the end, must be unmeasurable." - Louis Kahn
A sectional model of La Sagrada Familia showing more clearly the second level that runs the perimeter and would hold the choir.

Plans of the towers, showing the hollow core, structure & interstitial space in the walls.

The upside-down sandbag model Gaudi used to determine the stresses a loads on the structure of La Sagrada Familia - and also determining its shape somewhat.

Gaudi's small working models investigating various ways to use straight lines to construct curves and using these curved surfaces as structure.

A small school next to La Sagrada Familia where Gaudi implemented some of his design ideas shown in the models above.

The idea behind the light wells in the ceiling of La Sagrada Familia.
